10 Best Hiking Trails in Israel to Explore
There are plenty of amazing hiking trails in Israel to explore. However, these are the top 10 to put on your list. Make sure you stick to those with terrain acceptable for your fitness level. Dress in layers, wear good shoes, and take along plenty of water. Never deviate from the marked trails.
Amram’s Pillars
Located in the Eilat Mountains, this hike is very exciting and thrilling. You will see plenty of natural rock formations as you progress through it.
Burma Road
This is about a 3 ½ hour hike along a historical route in Jerusalem. You can also choose to take your car and park it in one of two locations and only do half of the route.
Mount Zefachot
This is rough terrain but a beautiful passage through the Eilat Mountain area. There are some difficult areas that are hard to climb up, so make sure you have someone with you to help guide you and help you navigate the terrain.
Nahal Amud
This is a fun hike the entire family can enjoy. It is located in the Galilee, and takes about two hours. You can cool off in the pools along the way if you desire on Israel National Trail.
Nahal Dragot
If you want a challenging adventure, this hike around the Dead Sea area is perfect. You shouldn’t do it alone, though, as it is far too dangerous. Many of the Israelis complete it as a rite of passage. In some areas, you have to swim across water. In others, you need to use ropes to get across.
Nahal Katlav
This hike is in Jerusalem and will take you about four hours to complete. You go through a wooded area, and take a winding trail to a lovely spring. There are plenty of shady places to stop along the way to rest or to take pictures.
Nahal Og
Plan about three hours to complete the hike of Nahal Og. It is in the Judean Desert. In some areas, you have to go up or down rungs which are drilled into the side of the rocks.
Nahal Yehudia
This hike takes about four hours to complete. There are a few areas where you will need to swim to get across. There are also a couple of cliffs where you must use rungs to climb down.
Upper Nahal David
This is in the Dead Sea area and takes about 1 ½ hours to complete. David’s Waterfall is found about 30 minutes into the hike. It is tough terrain that winds through the mountains. There is a fee to pay at the entrance to this trail.
Wadi Kelt
This is a difficult hike that will take you about six hours to complete. It is located in the Judean Desert. There are several small trails and picnic areas before you undertake this more challenging endeavor.
