The Western Wall

This was once part of the four walls that Herod the Great created for the plaza for the Temple. Today, only part of the wall remains but it is a very important part of history. It shows the dedication that was put into protecting the Temple. The design here with its large rocks and stones is very intriguing. The area is filled with life as people often come here to take photos for weddings and for Bar Mitzvahs. They believe doing so will bring them happiness, and it shows their commitment to their faith.

Mount Meron

The history here is very strong as it is the resting place of Rabbi Shimon bar Yohai, who wrote the Zohar. The land here is very open with green grass and lovely mountains where you can hike along the trails. You can drive the one-hour long loop around it if you don’t wish to go hiking.

There is a spiritual feeling here and many people come to this area for the peace and tranquility they are searching for. During certain times of the year, such as Lag Ba’omer, there are thousands of people camping in this region. They come here for prayer and to celebrate their faith.

The Tomb of Maimonides

This is one of the important pilgrimage sites in Israel. Maimonides is believed to have helped shape the way for Jews. He wrote a healer’s prayer which many recite when they come to see his tomb. The area is very lovely with its seven columns. This is a location which is very quiet and where people come to show their respect.
